Battling with the Bulge: Effective Weight Loss for Women

weight loss

A hormonally imbalanced body can accumulate a lot of fat regardless of age. While a small percentage of young girls suffer from this, most women face this problem during menopause. Young women suffer from hormonal imbalance due to polycystic ovaries syndrome or other such illness. Fortunately, there are highly effective treatments available for these conditions which. Once the imbalance is corrected, there is a marked reduction in the fat accumulation, too.

According to Green Gold Nutrition, “Your body’s hormones are chemical messengers that transmit instructions and information between cells. Your pH balance, sufficient cholesterol, stress, environment, tubal ligations, and chemical castrations are some of the few major influences when it comes to boosting the hormones’ performance.”

But with menopausal women, the problem of hormone balance is due to the natural process of cessation of ovulation. This can cause more long-term issues, and a holistic treatment helps reduce most symptoms, including weight gain. Resorting to over-the-counter pills will simply reduce the symptoms temporarily. All prescribed medication should be combined with a good diet, lifestyle changes, and exercise.

There are three main causes of fat accumulation during menopause:

  • Excess secretion of estrogen results in fat accumulation around the hips and reduction in muscle mass. While this is natural in women during menopause, estrogen can enter the body from outside sources like pesticides and herbicides. Reducing this hormone is possible by avoiding foods grown using toxic fertilizers and pesticides. Severe cases may require supplements to maintain the balance and promote weight loss. Monitoring the thyroid levels will also help, as imbalanced iodine levels are not good for fat gain.
  • Chronic stress levels increases the amount of cortisol in the blood. Excess cortisol does not allow the body to lose fat easily. In fact, it even increases the appetite and reduces the metabolic rate. So, chronic stress during menopause due to increased anxiety levels, reduced libido or mood swings causes more accumulation of fat. Try reducing stress by practicing yoga or aromatherapy. Medication helps in some severe cases.
  • The third reason is lack of sleep, which is common among women during menopause due to night sweats and hot flushes. Leptin decreases and ghrelin increases due to less sleep. The chemical Leptin tells you when you’re full, and if this is less, you tend to overeat. Ghrelin stimulates your appetite, and its increase will make you always hungry. Both these factors contribute to fat gain in the body. So, relaxing and sleeping well is very important for these women to keep the excess fat at bay.

Relaxing and eating good nutritious food is essential to stop gaining fat. Exercising regularly, jogging, and going for long walks can also help you with your battle with the bulge. So, there’s more to losing excess fat, especially for these women, than simply following strict diet plans.
